1)Scottish Gemstone Miner Killed in Kenya.

Campbell Bridges, a renowned Scottish gemstone miner and expert was killed in Kenya by an armed gang on Tuesday the 11th of August.

Bridges was ambushed and attacked by a group of about 30 men when they were approaching their mining camp. At the time of the attack Campbell Bridges was accompanied by his son, Bruce Bridge and 4 Kenyan employees. According to his son, Campbell Bridges was stabbed on the side. Read More

Despite the economic downturn, sales of jewelry for special occasions such as wedding, engagement and anniversaries has remained relatively stable or in some cases even increased.

Suresh Hathiramani, the vice-president of the Singapore Diamond Exchange told the Malaysian Insider that �Relationships matter even more now. More people are tying the knot. The last six to eight months has seen a boom in the wedding industry,� . Retail sales of diamonds in China topped $300 million during the first half of 2009. This made China among the top 3 biggest diamond consuming countries of the world.

According to the Global Times, China is the only country where the demand for diamonds has been on the rise despite the current recession. This is despite the fact that the diamond industry, is amond the hardest hit industries due to the recession. During the same period the import volumes of diamonds to the USA and Japan had dropped by 49 percent and 24 percent respectively. Read More
