famous diamond or gemstone from a statue in India

by Edward
(California, USA)

I have heard or read somewhere a story that during the British colonial period in India, a very famous diamond or gemstone was taken from the eye or the head of a God statue from India.

Please tell me:

1) Is this a true story or is it just rumor?

2) What is the name of this famous gemstone?

3) Where is it now?

4) What is the legend of this famous stone?

Thanks!

Edward

Answer

Hi Edward, Dr Shihaan here. This question has already been dealt with separately on a page called The Idols Eye Diamond.

The link to that page is

Idol's Eye Diamond

The three diamonds believed to be removed from Idols are The Idol's Eye Diamond,The Hope Diamond and The Orlov Diamond.
