In this webpage we are publishing a table of largest gem-quality rough diamonds discovered in the various diamond mines of the world throughout history. The diamonds are arranged in descending order of carat weights on the table, and apart from the weight of the diamonds also gives information on the country of discovery, year of discovery, color of the diamond and overall position on the table. The table would be updated as more significant large diamonds are unearthed.

Important Information that can be gathered from the above table

1) The 3,106-carat Cullinan rough diamond discovered in 1905 from the Premier Diamond Mine in South Africa remains the largest ever gem-quality rough diamond discovered.

2) The 787-carat Great Mogul Diamond discovered in India in 1650, remained the largest rough diamond ever discovered for 243 years, until the discovery of the 995-carat excelsior rough diamond in the Jagersfontein diamond mine in South Africa in 1893.

3) The 995-carat Excelsior rough diamond held the unique distinction of being the world's largest gem-quality rough diamond ever discovered for a period of 12 years from 1893 to 1905 until the discovery of the enormous Cullinan rough diamond.

4) The 770-carat Woyie River discovered in 1945, was the 4th-largest rough diamond at the time of its discovery.

5) The 726.60-carat President Vargas discovered in Brazil in 1938, was the 4th-largest rough diamond at the time of its discovery.

6) The 726-carat Jonker diamond discovered in South Africa in 1934, was the 4th-largest rough diamond at the time of its discovery.

7) The 650.80-carat Jubilee-Reitz diamond discovered in 1895 in South Africa was the 3rd-largest diamond at the time of its discovery.

8) The 457.50-carat Jacob-Victoria diamond discovered in 1884 was the 2nd-largest rough diamond at the time of its discovery.

9) The 428.50-carat De Beers diamond discovered in 1888 was the 3rd-largest rough diamond at the time of its discovery.
